PM Modi to Virtually Inaugurate Jammu Railway Division on January 6
Jammu, December 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the Jammu Railway Division from New Delhi on January 6, 2025. This move marks a significant milestone ahead of the anticipated launch of train services connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India, as reported by KNS.
The establishment of the Jammu Railway Division fulfills a long-standing demand of local organizations and is expected to enhance regional connectivity and foster economic growth. Currently, Jammu falls under the Firozepur Railway Division of Northern Railways.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Dr. Jitendra Singh, will represent the event in Jammu. The inauguration will also include two other railway divisions across the country. Officials stated, “The creation of the Jammu Railway Division will benefit passengers, improve services, and boost regional development.”
The Railways are gearing up to launch direct train services to the Kashmir Valley, with operations likely starting around January 20. While the exact date and venue for the train’s inauguration remain undecided, the project represents a significant step in India’s railway infrastructure.
Currently, train services in Jammu and Kashmir operate between Sangaldan and Baramulla, with a trial run underway on the crucial 18-km Katra-Reasi section. This section, part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, is undergoing rigorous testing to assess track stability, tunnel ventilation, signaling, and control systems.
The USBRL project aims to deliver world-class rail infrastructure with advanced amenities. Proposed services include routes connecting New Delhi-Srinagar-Baramulla and Jammu-Srinagar. The Katra-Reasi section boasts cutting-edge technologies, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Indian Railways currently operates 17 zones and 68 divisions, with the Jammu Railway Division being a major addition to its network.
